Month Summaries

January 2007

Overview

January 2007 was exceptionally mild - warmer than any winter month (December, January or February) of the last three years. Westerly winds dominated the weather, including damaging winds on the 18th. A gust of 34mph was recorded on the 18th - remarkable considering the extremely poor exposure of the anemometer. A brief northerly interlude served to remind us what winter could be like with three consecutive days with air frosts and snow falling. A very slight accumulation of snow was noted on the 25th, but only on cars. Curiously, each of the last three Januaries has featured a cold spell around the 23rd-25th. Total precipitation of 43.2mm is less than two thirds of the eLTA, but is actually the wettest January since before 2005.
